Young Rider Programme
Investing in the future
Clifton Eventers and Jonathan Paget are committed to helping today's Junior riders become the team members for New Zealand Eventing for 2016 onwards.
We currently have the following programmes in place:
Sponsorship of the CIC*J Richfields Junior One Day Championship in December 2010
In combination with Richfields 3-Day Event and Horse & Pony Magazine, we started this programme for the CCI*J Class at the 2008 Richfields International Horse Trial.
The Clifton Eventers sponsorship meant that junior riders were able to enter the class for free and the first three placegetters received scholarships for training at the Muriwai base with Jonathan Paget of various values.
Further to this, we also held a one day clinic at Muriwai that all riders in the CCI*J class who completed the event and three other junior riders, two of which competed in the CCI* and CCI** classes with distinction were invited to attend. You can read a report on their experiences here.
We will be running a similar programme again at the CIC*J Richfields Junior One Day Championship 26-28 November 2010.
A long term (four months to two years) training scholarship awarded to a top Junior rider and their horse to come and learn with the Clifton Eventers' team.
This is a Junior/Young Rider Training Scholarship at our Muriwai training base.
The successful applicant needs to be naturally talented, but more importantly committed, hard working and serious about learning how to develop horses and themselves to represent New Zealand at top-level eventing. (Please note, this means you either have to be a New Zealand citizen or consider becoming one to qualify.)
The scholarship is usually awarded for just one season, but it can be extended for the right individual.
You can read more about this here.
Commitment to helping the top Eventing riders at local Pony Clubs at no charge.
We are already working with several Pony Clubs in the Waitemata Rodney area and are willing to work with more as and when our resources allow. Representatives of Pony Clubs affiliated to the NZPCA are asked to contact us if they would like to know more.
